RV Campground – Finding One Right for You

Finding the perfect RV campground can be stressful for the planner in the group. From local RV parks to National Parks or something in between, you will feel right at home at your temporary address. And with a little forethought and the use of something called the internet (what?) finding just the right campground is easier and easier.

We want you to be Smart about picking your campground so we have put together a few lists to help you “pre-screen” your next parking spot.

List 1 – Questions you can ask on the phone

  • Is there space available (sounds obvious, but….)rv campgrounds river
  • Do you have a pull through space? (this is our favorite)
  • Hookups – if this is important, ask.  This summer we stayed at a lake where only half the spaces had hookups.
  • Pets/Dog Park (you want Fido to be welcome)
  • Price and any discounts
  • Late arrival policy
  • Any other amenities that might be important to you (restrooms, showers, laundry, etc.)

List 2 – Upon Arrival at the RV Campground

  • Take a look around – is it mostly permanent residents (that can be a little sketchy sometimes)
  • Overall cleanliness (you can tell a lot just driving up)
  • Road conditions, level spaces, location of hookups (you want to be able to exit easily)
  • General location – near a freeway, train, airport.  (They usually won’t mention the train that comes through 5 times a day in the brochure)

You can always camp at a Walmart

We always try to have a backup plan, just in case.  That might be another park, the next town, or Wal-Mart.  You will also find that there are lots of parks not listed in the guides below and many of them are very nice. Hint – I LOVE the Good Sam App for your Smart phone!  Super easy.

We will be updating information and links frequently as well as posting new finds on our Facebook Page. So in the meantime, check out some of these links for campground information.
