RV Travel – Smart, Stress Free, and Safe

RV Travel begins with anticipation and excitement.  Whether you first or 100th trip, the thrill of RVing is addictive and exhilarating.  What goes into turning that anticipation and excitement into a reality?  The answer lies in smart planning and preparation for a safe and stress free trip.

Planning and Preparation

As RV rental operators we saw renters who pre-planned down to the last mile and campground.  They believed that this level of planning would increase their fun and reduce stress.  Then there were the folks who rolled in ready to jump in the RV and go!  No plans, no reservations and certainly not terribly interested in the mandatory orientation!

The right amount of planning probably falls somewhere between these two extremes.  Understanding the benefit of an itinerary, a comfortable daily driving distance, and plans of where to park at night are musts in our experience.  However, being flexible in the plan is what makes RV travel an adventure.

We talk a lot about stress free RVing.  A big part of stress free RV travel lies in your knowledge of the RV and the safe operation of the unit.

One of the first things we told our rental customers was that this is a rolling house on wheels.  Imagine that we took your house and bolted it onto the back of your truck.  That, in oversimplified terms, is an RV!  That image helps the RVer understand the importance of safe driving.

A basic concept of the RV systems and warning devices will also go a long way to insuring a stress free trip.  Such things as how to operate the appliance (why isn’t the food in the refrigerator cold?),  how to park, how to operate the TV will benefit you after a long day on the road!

Smart RV Travel

Smart travel encompasses so many factors but probably the most important is relax and be flexible.  Just like any other form of travel there will be delays, challenges, and unexpected opportunities for fun and learning.  I’m a planner and yet on our last trip (16 days) we didn’t stay at a single campground I had mapped out for us!  Why?  Well, either we drove less or more each day.  Or we woke up late because of a storm.  One time we just decided to stay an extra day!

See that is the allure of RV travel, isn’t it?  Your home is where you park it and the adventure awaits along the highways and back roads of this great land!
